What do we repair and maintain?
Repairs
Generally, to figure out the required repairs, we first have to inspect your computer by looking at its hardware and using computer software that may either be from a third party or already on the system. From there, we can narrow down where the problems may be. Inspection time depends on the complexity of the problem. Repair costs also vary depending on which part needs to be modified or replaced. For example, replacing a fan inside the computer can cost around $30, while replacing something much more vital to the computer such as the CPU can cost upwards of $200. Regardless, we attempt to make our visits cost-effective and simple, so that it won't be a hassle for our customers to get a repair done.
Maintenance
Dust accumulation in a computer can be very detrimental to its performance. Due to the high surface area of dust and its position around cooling fans and other components inside the computer, it acts as a heat absorber. It prevents components from properly cooling, which may cause slower performance, crashes, and damage to certain components over a long period. To clean computers, we use canned air to loosen dust and brushes in tight spots to wipe the computer clean of dust. It might be necessary to temporarily remove or dismantle components to clean out all the dust, though no modification should ever be done (unless it prevents future dust accumulation).
To make repairs, we use anti-static wrist straps to prevent electric shocks from the body of the person handling the device, which can fry crucial components.
How can you keep your computer maintained?
To keep your computer maintained, we recommend doing the following:
Replacing GPU/CPU thermal paste on occasion as it dries out over time
Testing the computer's performance to make sure no components are underperforming for any reason
Making sure all the fans run properly
Being safe when overclocking, and doing it carefully
Cable management for organization both inside and outside the computer
Buying the needed materials to clean your computer
Opening your case to see the amount of dust build-up in your computer
Cleaning the dust out of your computer roughly every six months
If you follow all of these steps, your computer will last as long as possible and will have its lifespan extended by a few more years.
